CN-REDD RESPONSABILITIES

The responsibilities of the National REDD Coordination are defined by the Decree (No. 09/40/11/2009) of the Prime Minister establishing the composition and organization of the structure for implementing the process of reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, known as 'REDD' for short.

They consist mainly of:

  • Ensuring the daily management of the implementation of the process and monitoring the activities planned in the annual work plan to ensure they lead to the expected results;
  • Formulating, for the minister responsible for the environment, proposals for members of the technical committee of experts or scientific council and ensuring the mobilization of national and international experts;
  • Ensuring the Technical Secretariat of the national committee and the interministerial committee;
  • Ensuring the coordination of the REDD process in the Democratic Republic of Congo with other government initiatives and forest funders, including the link with the coordination units of the Forest and Nature Conservation project (UN-PFCN), the thematic group responsible for forests, as well as the regional REDD process of COMIFAC.
  • Encouraging and ensuring a participatory approach to the REDD process by involving and consulting various stakeholders, including forest communities and indigenous peoples.
