Presentation of the CNR-DRC
The Democratic Republic of Congo is engaged in an international mechanism for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+). Led by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD), the governance of the REDD process was established by Decree of the Prime Minister in November 2009: a National Committee (decision-making body), an Interministerial Committee (planning body), and a National Coordination. Heavily involved through its Renovated REDD Climate Working Group (GTCRR), the Congolese civil society has participated in studies and debates to construct the framework for the implementation of REDD+.
REDD+ is a voluntary international mechanism for financing climate change mitigation agreed under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which aims to value forests by rewarding developing countries with payments for results in terms of reducing deforestation and forest degradation, the mechanism also takes into account the increase in carbon stocks.

Key Responsibilities of the National REDD Coordination in the Implementation of the REDD Process
The responsibilities of the National REDD Coordination are defined by the Decree (No. 09/40/11/2009) of the Prime Minister establishing the composition and organization of the structure for implementing the process of reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, known as "REDD" for short.
